It’s the heel of the peninsula with its long Adriatic and Ionic coast that distinguishes this region for the wonderful places appreciated by the sea lovers. Its territory is mainly level and the climate is typically Mediterranean and just because of that agriculture is predominant in its economy and is in the forefront for olive oil production, but also grapes and tomatoes. The most important business is mussels fishing (Taranto). Tourism is focused on enchanting beaches (Gargano and Salento). Main attractions are Castellana Caves, S.Pio di Pietralcina Sanctuary, Levante Fair.
