It’s the smallest region in Italy and it includes a mainly mountainous
territory with an alpine landscape. It’s highest mountain is 4,810 mt.
the Mont Blanc and it’s considered to be the highest mountain in Europe.
It includes the Dora Baltea and many lakes of glacial origin. The natural reserve
of the ‘Gran Paradiso National Park is an important safeguard for animals
like chamois, ibex, marmots, ermines. The alpine climate is made of harsh winter
with strong snowfalls. There is the dairy farm (‘fontina’ production)
and the cultivation of fruit trees (apples and pears). Another sector is that
of viticulture and honey production. Tourism is focused on hiking in winter
ski resorts, also in summer (Courmayer, Cervinia and Gressoney).
